Pregnancy: 27 weeks 11/29/09

27 weeks pregnantAccording to all the expert pregnancy sites, BB can hear pretty well now and I’m supposed to sing or talk to him. I do talk to him but I don’t want to subject him to my singing, so…I started making a playlist. It has some hiphop, rock, etc., but I figured I’ll start out with some more soothing music.

I really like The Dixie Chick’s “Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)” and always thought if I had a baby boy that I would play it. As I’m typing this I have the headphones on my belly. He is moving around a little bit, not sure if he likes it or is protesting. 😀

Dragon tales and the “water is wide”
Pirate’s sail and lost boys fly
Fish bite moonbeams every night
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Sweet dreams

The rocket racer’s all tuckered out
Superman’s in pajamas on the couch
Goodnight moon, we’ll find the mouse
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Sweet dreams

God bless mommy and match box cars
God bless dad and thanks for the stars
God hears “amen” wherever we are
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Sweet dreams

Old Music for an Old Lady

I’m older today and I’m not going to lie, I’m not taking the birthday very well.  I typically listen to music that is emotional when I’m not feeling my cheery self.  Usually when I feel this way I listen to a certain selection of old school songs from way back in the day that put me into more of an emotionally fragile state until I have it out of my system and feel a sense of relief.  This is the first time I have actually thought about what these songs mean to me and wrote it out.

“Still Remains” by Stone Temple Pilots on their Purple album
“If you should die before me, ask if you can bring a friend”
I think this song is intensely romantic, it says “I am so in love with this person that i would rather die than be without them.”  I have always thought that and there are very few other songs that come close.

“Big Empty” by Stone Temple Pilots from their Purple album
“time to take her home, her dizzy head is conscience laden..time to wait too long, time to wait too long”
I first fell in love with this song when I became obsessed with the movie “The Crow”
It’s hard to be in love with someone more than they are in love with you.  With someone that isn’t sure what they want. Especially if its you they aren’t sure of.

“I Love You” by Sarah McLachlan from her album Surfacing
“I have a smile stretched from ear to ear

World Around us Disappears
Its just you and me on my island of hope
The prayers between us could be miles

I grieve from my condition
For I cannot find the words to say I need you so”

Sarah is one of my all time favorite lyricists and musicians. I think her voice is beautiful and she feels every word that she sings.  I love falling asleep to her as its like a warm blanket.  This song in particular touches me because I have always been horrible about telling people how I feel about them – not just the man I love, but my family and friends as well.

“L.E.S. Artistes” by Santogold featuring Movado

What I’m searching for
To tell the truth I’m building a wall

I can say I hope it will be worth what I give up
…for the things that I believe

I’m an introverted excavator”

For some reason this song makes me think about the things I am willng to forego in order to be with someone I love and hoping that I am making a good choice

“At My Most Beautiful” by REM
“I found a way to make you
A way to make you smile”

Two people trying to figure things out.  Someone else seeing you and helping you to feel beautiful on the inside and out.

“Ex-factor” by Lauryn Hill from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
“tell me who I have to be

see no one loves you more than me
and no one ever will

see I know what we have to do
you let go and I’ll let go too”

This is the ultimate break up song.  I was with someone that I cared for very deeply, but we were horrible as a couple. We fought very badly and were completely miserable together.  When I hear this song I don’t think of him, but this song hits at the very crux of many relationships…as much as it hurts sometimes you need to let go for the better of both of you

“Waiting For That Day / You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by George Michael
“I just sit here on this mountain thinking to myself
You’re a fool boy why don’t you go down find somebody find somebody else
My memory servers me far too well
Its not as though we just broke up
Its not as though it was yesterday
But something I just can’t explain
Something in me needs this pain
I know I’ll never see your face again”

Sometimes its hard to say goodbye to someone that you love.  Memories can be debilitating and can
stop you from moving on…as hard as it is you need to move on.  Its hard not to beg them to come
back.  But you can’t always get what you want.  The other person may have moved on and there isn’t a chance for reconciliation.

That’s what they’re singing?

I’ve been addicted to “Walking on a Dream” by Empire of the Sun for about a month now.  I had no idea half of what they were singing except for “thrill of it” and “walking on a dream.”  I just discovered the lyrics on their site and I was actually pleasantly surprised.  I think accents or something covered up some of the chorus. Anyway, I pay close attention to lyrics because I like to write poetry and I like beats that make me wanna shake my bootay. When a song delivers both, it makes me feel all happified.

Walking on a dream
How can I explain
Talking to myself
Will I see again

We are always running for the thrill of it thrill of it
Always pushing up the hill searching for the thrill of it
On and on and on we are calling out and out again
Never looking down I’m just in awe of what’s in front of me

Is it real now
When two people become one
I can feel it
When two people become one

Thought I’d never see
The love you found in me
Now it’s changing all the time
Living in a rhythm where the minutes working overtime

Catch me I’m falling down
Catch me I’m falling down

Don’t stop just keep going on
I’m your shoulder lean upon
So come on deliver from inside
All we got is tonight that is right till first light

Music that made me all happified today

Here are some tunes that totally moved me somehow – either literally in my chair, because I got a good chuckle or gave me goosebumps and made me miss my dood.

So They Say from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog Soundtrack

>>I love the show and this song just cracks me up.  Who can’t chuckle to these lyrics: “This is so nice. I just might sleep with the same girl twice. They say it’s better the second time. They say you get to do the weird stuff.” The Topspin offices have guitars and a drumset and keyboards and so forth and I was hoping to get some peeps to play it, but no go (so far).

Valium Knights by Spinnerette

>>Brody Dalle is amazing.  Spinerette is working with Topspin and it just gets me all excited to work with amazing artists.  I think she has an incredibly sexy voice and I love women that can rock.

Electric Feel by MGMT

>>I found this on Fairtilizer which is my fave new listening tool.  This song is so dang catchy!

MGMT cover of Kids by the Kooks

>>My friend Dan sent this to me and I really really like it.  I appreciate the whole being in love and maintaining the kook

Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa by Vampire Weekend

>>I listened to this from the Chromeo Dave 1 playlist and I happened to be reading a pretty amazing email I got from my dood and so now I associate this song with him.  I interpret the song to be about being in a rather sheltered situation and doing something that isn’t quite acceptable, or rather doing something you wouldn’t normally do…as my mantra says “fuck it.”

Lollipop by Madison

>>The song is much more erotic sung with Madison’s raspy voice…also something about a woman singing about another woman is pretty hawt

L.E.S. Artistes by Santogold featuring Movado

>>I was having a pretty intense, intimate moment with my dood over the labor day weekend and this song was playing and I guess the moment along with the tempo of the song and the lyrics all just blended well for me. In fact I remember replaying it on purpose. 🙂

Glory Box by Portishead

>>Let’s just say that I have a problem with not ever being “all in” when it comes to relationships…even when married I always had a foot in the door.  I’m not a player, I’m not into serially dating but just never gave my whole heart to someone…and this song pretty much sums it up for me. She is singing about finally giving her heart up but also asking to be loved back in the same way, and forever.

Emotional Triggers

I was out with a friend the other night and he asked me if there was anything that would trigger me to become overly emotional, no matter what I was doing or the mood I was in.  His trigger was fairly obscure, and surprising and actually made me giggle.  I thought about mine for a second and answered that it was when animals were being treated poorly.  At the time that seemed liked the right answer.  I’m a big animal lover and I get pretty emotional watching Animal Cops and the like.

Today, at the end of an extremely emotionally taxing day, I realized that I have another trigger.  I was watching Almost Famous and that scene where everyone on the bus starts singing Elton John’s Tiny Dancer came on.  It was at an extremely emotional highpoint in the movie that has always resonated with me.  Every time I see that scene, no matter how many times, I cry.

There are many other movies that invoke this response in me – it is always a combination of a scene and the music.  Some are silly and I can’t bare to share, but my connection with them all runs deep.

Although these combinations make me cry and emotionally uncomfortable, at the same time it is incredible and almost magical knowing that two writers – script and song – were able to connect with me on such a deep level.
